Rovers’ unbeaten run came to an end this evening when they lost 2-1 to Rotherham at the Memorial Stadium.

A devastating two minute period in the second half was the downfall for Rovers, who pulled a goal back through a stunning strike from Joe Anyinsah.

It was a performance full of effort and endeavour from Rovers, who were forced to make two early substitutions.

John Ward named an unchanged side from the one that beat Wycombe 1-0 at the weekend.

There was little to report in an uneventful first half, with neither team threatening the opposition goalkeeper too much.

Seanan Clucas had the first half chance for Rovers, but he blasted over from just outside the area.

Rovers were then forced to make a change on 14 minutes, when Fabian Broghammer left the field with a tight hamstring.

John-Joe O’Toole got the crowd excited when he rippled the net from 25 yards, but his shot had hit the side netting rather than the back of the goal.

Michael Smith then floated in a great cross, but Rotherham goalkeeper Andy Warrington got there before Ryan Brunt.

There was a let off for Rovers as Rotherham fired over the bar from close range, before Tom Parkes sent a bullet header just over the bar from a corner.

Rovers lost another player at half time, with David Clarkson coming on to replace Ryan Brunt.

Rotherham also made a change with Kayode Odejayi coming on to replace the injured Daniel Kearns.

Clarkson had the first effort of the second half, forcing a diving save from Warrington.

Substitute Odejayi had a headed shot on target, before Kari Armason fired over from outside the area.

And it was Odejayi who then made the breakthrough for the visitors on the hour mark. Alex Revell’s shot from 18 yards was parried by Steve Mildenhall, but only as far as Odejayi. The big striker fired home from close range.

Odejayi then turned provider for Lee Frecklington who volleyed home just two minutes later to double the visitor’s lead.

Rovers then made their final change of the game, bringing Tom Hitchcock on for Oli Norburn.

Parkes had a header from a corner go over the bar, before Rovers were able to pull one back.

Anyinsah struck a sweet strike from the edge of the area which flew into the bottom right hand corner.

Rovers then fought hard for the equaliser, but Rotherham held on to take all three points.

Rovers will now be looking to start a new run when they visit Morecambe on Saturday.
