ANDY BOND SIGNS ON LOAN

12 September 2013

Colchester midfielder joins for a month.

Bristol Rovers have signed Colchester United midfielder Andy Bond on a month’s loan.

The 27-yeard-old will link up with the team tomorrow when they travel to Dagenham.

Manager John Ward said: “He was the first player I signed when I was manager at Colchester, so I know what he can do.

“He is just what I was looking for in terms of experience and he has played at a number of different levels. He gives me an experienced player where I currently have youth.

“He is an all action player, very energetic and busy, and he can play in a number of different positions.

“He has played in the same team as John-Joe at Colchester, and if his loan spell here is successful, there is potential to extend his stay.

“We are meeting up with him tomorrow, and he will train with us and go straight into the squad for Saturday’s game.”

Bond began his career at Crewe Alexandra but despite being a regular for the reserves never made a first team appearance, and joined Conference North side Barrow in 2006.

He helped the non-league side to promotion during his time at the club and capped off his spell there by helping the Holker Street Stadium side to victory in the FA Trophy final.

Bond moved to Colchester in the summer of 2010, becoming John Ward’s first signing as the U’s manager.

In September 2013, Bond joined former club Crewe on a month’s loan deal.

This season Andy has played in five games for Colchester, scoring the 88th minute winner on the opening day of the season, after coming off the bench.

Chairman Nick Higgs said: “We are delighted to welcome Andy to the club.

“He is an experienced midfielder who will add extra strengthen and competition to that area of the squad.

“John has worked with him before, so is fully aware of his strengths and what he can bring to the team.”

Andy, who has represented England C at international level, will be given squad number 16.
