MATT GILL JOINS EXETER ON LOAN

18 October 2013

Midfielder joins his former club

Matt Gill as today joined Exeter on loan until the end of the year.

The midfielder will link up with the Grecians today ahead of their match against Scunthorpe tomorrow.

It will be a return to St James’ Park for Gill, who previously played their between 2006 and 2009.

Matt joined Rovers from Norwich on a three year contract in the summer of 2011.

He began his career as a trainee with Peterborough United, signing his first pro contract in March 1998.

During his time at London Road he scored four goals in 151 league appearances, before signing for Notts County in June 2004.

In 18 months at Meadow Lane he appeared in 57 league games before his next move, to Exeter City, where he scored 14 goals in over 150 league games.

Matt joined Norwich City in the summer of 2009, but injuries hampered his progress during his first season at Carrow Road and he appeared in just eight league games.

In the 2010/11 campaign he spent time on loan at his former club, Peterborough, and with Walsall and scored one of the Saddlers goals in the 6-1 demolition of Rovers in January 2011.

Appointed skipper in the summer of 2011, Matt made his Rovers league debut on the opening day of the season and went on to appear in 32 league games during his first season at the Memorial Stadium.

A knee injury curtailed his appearances last season and John Ward confirmed last month that Gill was not in his immediate plans, and would need to go out on loan to get games.
