GODDARD SIGNS NEW DEAL

5 June 2013

One year contract for the young midfielder

Jordan Goddard has signed a new one-year deal with Bristol Rovers.

The 20-year-old signed his first professional contract with Rovers last summer after coming up through the youth system, and has now earnt himself another year with the club.

Manager John Ward believes it is important to give young players a chance to prove themselves.

He said: "Sometimes these guys come in and get a year's contract, get half way through that and start to worry, so we have tried to calm down that bit of things.

"People like Jordan need opportunities to come through, and we want to give them that chance. If they make it here, that is terrific, but if they don't that extra year gives them an opportunity to play as high as they can elsewhere."

The midfielder made his first senior appearance for Rovers when going on as a late substitute in our First Round FA Cup tie against Corby Town in November 2011.

Jordan spent a period on loan at Gloucester City, with team mate Mitch Harding. Both players were later recalled, before Jordan returned to the Blue Square Bet Conference North club for another month.

Chairman Nick Higgs said: “Jordan is another youngster who has come through the ranks of our Academy system.

“He has earnt himself another contract, and we hope he can continue to develop and progress with the club.”
